Identity Management planning tips from an expert

It is always good to get advice from those with the most experience. We asked David Guest, our IAM & Strategy Architect, for his top five tips for those planning or considering an Identity Management project.

IDM Projects are generally complex and often appear to stall during any rollout. It is at these times that the project needs to have a number of things in place. These should be set at the outset and be consistent throughout the complete project. These are:

  • Have an executive sponsor who understands what the aim is and has bought in!
  • Have a documented vision that is clear and easy to articulate then stick to it
  • IDM projects should be limited in scope to achievable results. Don’t bite off in the first phase more than can be delivered
  • Split larger programmes into small, measurable projects
  • Start with the important, but not critical, systems and prove the concept before moving on to the critical systems
