Title: IE6 Vulnerability Update.

We’re sure that you are very aware of all the recent stories regarding the security vulnerability reported in Internet Explorer and the reaction of various countries to this news.

CESG (the UK Government's National Technical Authority for Information Assurance) have been working extremely closely with Microsoft’s Public Sector team here in the UK as well as directly with the relevant teams at our corporate headquarters to get all the relevant information and advice from which to make a realistic assessment of the risk, and we’re pleased to see that the current message from the Cabinet Office appearing in the media reflects this approach. We will continue to work closely with CESG moving forward to ensure that they are provided with everything they need in the coming days.

Security is obviously a key issue and one that we take immensely seriously at Microsoft. Our immediate goal is obviously to ensure that you and your Government customers are not affected by this current vulnerability, but moving forward we would be keen to work closely with you to ensure that the public sector in the UK is better protected from potential security vulnerabilities in the future. We continue to recommend that customers using IE6 or IE7, upgrade to IE8 as soon as possible to benefit from the improved security protections it offers.
