Today I thought I would talk about support – This year I have been involved in two sectors - Education and the NHS. Both generally have a “security blanket” of a support contract – which is sensible for any organisation. What has astonished me however is the cost of some of these contracts – I spoke to one college this morning that pays over £15000 for a “Gold” Microsoft/Novell agreement and has to pay extra if he adds further servers or solutions into the environment (some NHS customers are paying over £50,000.00). A few institutions also appear to still be buying their support on a per incident basis - Paying £5,000 to £10,000 for a block of 5 to 10 logged calls.
