Salford Software has signed a contract with The University of Nottingham to provide an Identity Management (IDM) solution that will enable its 40,000 students and staff to access online services across its many faculties with a single-sign-on.
The new system will enable the University's IT staff to manage the identity of each user based upon their role; student, lecturer, administration staff as well as contractors, and grant them access to those services relevant to them based upon identity.
The long term aim of the implementation is to remove the need for multiple usernames and passwords and ensure that the customer experience is simpler and that they can make use of self-service functionality to reset them where necessary - removing the burden on the IT department, said Chris Parry, Team Leader (Networks & Systems), The University of Nottingham.
The IDM solution will ensure the integrity of the data held within our records management systems in the University, improving the quality and relevance of data across all systems.
It will also ensure even tighter security across the institution by eliminating risks through removing accounts as students and staff leave the University.
Salford Software demonstrated an understanding of the needs of the University – to have one single joined up solution across all customers and all faculties, as well as an advanced knowledge of the UK higher education market, said Chris Parry.
We defined the exact requirements, scope and business processes, solution detail and the investment required to achieve the defined goals set out by The University of Nottingham, said James Doggart, MD, Salford Software
Having worked with many higher education institutions, we are thrilled to be able to apply our knowledge and understanding of the IDM market to helping The University of Nottingham provide an excellent customer experience for both staff and students.
