Public betas of Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 and Office 2010 will become available in November, CEO Steve Ballmer told the crowd attending Microsoft's SharePoint conference in Las Vegas on Monday.

Touting SharePoint Server 2010 as the biggest and most important release of SharePoint to date, Ballmer pointed to some of the collaboration platform's new features, which include a new ribbon user interface to customize SharePoint sites and Office integration through social tagging, backstage integration and document lifecycle management.

Microsoft has been offering its first web hosted security service under the Forefront brand since April of this year, dubbed "Forefront Online Security for Exchange" and designed to help keep malware and spam out of email inboxes.The current hosted service targets enterprise MS Exchange customers and includes a web-based console for setting up policies for virus and spam protection.

Twitter is in advanced talks with Microsoft and Google separately about striking data-mining deals, in which the companies would license a full feed from the microblogging service that could then be integrated into the results of their competing search engine
Sources said a number of scenarios are being discussed to compensate Twitter for its huge and potentially valuable trove of real-time and content-sharing information, generated from the data stream of billions of tweets of its 54 million monthly users.
