Shibboleth provides federated access to external resources and is Open Source software as well as a standard protocol for exchanging identity information. The solution is used by academic organisations and allows users, students and academic staff to access a number of external services from anywhere whilst signing on with their institutional credentials.

Salford Software can assist with the deployment of Shibboleth, not only the technology but the finer detail regarding asserting your users to external third parties and integration with the Shibboleth to Athens gateway. We work with both the IT department and Library staff to ensure a successful deployment including the resulting end user experience. With the introduction of Shibboleth 2 much of the configuration has changed and Salford Software can assist with either a new deployment or an upgrade of an existing Shibboleth 1.3 installation.

Salford Software is a recognised third party provider of Federated Access Management solutions for the JISC and as a third party provider we have an agreement with the federation to undertake the registration activities on behalf of an institution to remove the administrative burden as part of our service.

Not only is the implementation efficient but Salford Software provide ongoing support for those organisations with limited skills or resources.
